Explanation on the artworks
I chose several landscapes to remaster. I first stripped the paintings of their frames. In doing so, they literally and figuratively lost a lot of dust. After playing with different ideas, I opted for a painting on plexiglass. Last year I made a series on plexiglass and so my contribution to Remastered Art fits in well with my own work.
The painting on Plexiglas adds a whole new layer to the existing painting, without directly changing anything. By mounting the Plexiglas at a distance, the painting casts a shadow on the original canvas, creating a surprising three-dimensional effect. This intervention adds a whole new season to the old, dusty work.
Motivation of the artist
When I was asked if I wanted to participate in the Remastered Art project, I was immediately enthusiastic. It is a wonderful initiative that fits in very well with today's times. Slowly but surely it is dawning that in order to preserve the earth we have to behave fundamentally differently. Sustainability, the circular economy, recycling, reuse, no waste, consumption and upcycling are being considered on all fronts. There are many designers and startups working on wonderful initiatives and fortunately more and more large companies are also carefully moving in the right direction. By giving a new life to a discarded work of art, Remastered Art contributes creatively and innovatively to a better world.
